Mark Chater
I was appointed to the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in April 2006. My exact title is Programme Adviser in the Partnerships and Evidence Team, with responsibility for several projects in RE, spiritual and moral development, cultural diversity and initial teacher training. Before joining the QCA, I was a teacher trainer in primary and secondary RE, a Reader in Education and researcher in aspects of spirituality and education, among other issues. Before that, I was for ten years a secondary teacher of RE in three very different schools in Scotland and England. In the last twelve months with QCA, my main work has been involved with the non-statutory national framework for RE and continuing to disseminate and support the framework for RE with partner organisations and publishing units of work to exemplify it. I also support the work of SACREs and by working with NASACRE and the RE Council I support SACREs and spread good practice. Finally, I have been developing guidance for Agreed Syllabus Conference and working with a small group of writers to give clear guidance on how agreed syllabus conferences can best make use of the non-statutory national framework.
